Explosion in Barishal building leaves 2 injured

An explosion occurred in a three-storey building near Dargah Bari Mosque in Ward No 23 of Barishal early today (15 April), injuring two people and damaging parts of the structure.

The injured, Manik, a security guard, and his son Mridul, were taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Md Robiul Islam, a senior official of Barishal Sadar Fire Service Station, said the explosion is primarily suspected to have been caused by gas leakage from a cylinder. He said Manik suffered burns to his hands and legs, while his son sustained head injuries.
Resident Al-Amin Hawlader said a loud noise was heard at the time of the incident, prompting residents to leave their homes. He said the force of the explosion caused doors and windows to be blown into a nearby canal.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station, Al Mamun Ul Islam, said two police teams are at the scene. He said the incident is being investigated, while the condition of the injured remains unknown.
