Ex-AL MPs Amu, Golap shown arrested in separate July Uprising murder cases

Awami League Presidium Member and ex-MP Amir Hossain Amu and the party's Publicity and Publication Secretary and ex-MP Abdus Sobhan Golap have been shown arrested in two separate student murder cases linked to the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Miah passed the order this morning (28 July) after police submitted separate pleas in connection with the murder cases filed with Mirpur Model Police Station and Dhanmondi Police Station.
State prosecutor Azizul Haq Didar confirmed the matter.
Earlier, Amir Hossain Amu was brought before the court in the case filed over the death of Sujon Mahmud, a student of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). Investigating officer Inspector Md Alaudin requested that he be arrested and kept in jail.
Sujon's brother Sultan Mahmud filed the murder case at Mirpur Police Station.
Meanwhile, in the other case, CID Inspector Fazlul Haque Khan brought Abdus Sobhan Golap before the court in the case over the murder of Abdullah Siddiqi, a student of Habibullah Bahar College.
According to the case statement, Abdullah was killed on 4 August in Jigatola during a peaceful protest when a group of people attacked the protesters from the nearby Awami League office reportedly with support from the accused.
Abdullah's friend Faiyaz Ahmed Ratul filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on 18 September.
