Ex-AL leader Mobarak’s war crimes appeal verdict on 30 July
Mobarak was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on 24 November 2014.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has set 30 July as the date to deliver its verdict on the appeal filed by Md Mobarak Hossain, a former leader of the Awami League expelled from the party, against his death sentence for crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War.
An appellate bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, fixed the date following the conclusion of the appeal hearing.
Senior lawyers SM Shahjahan and Imran A Siddique represented Mobarak during the appeal hearing, while Gazi Monawar Hussain Tamim appeared for the prosecution.
Mobarak was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on 24 November 2014. The tribunal, comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Jahangir Hossain, and Justice Anwarul Haq, found him guilty on two of the five charges brought against him. He received the death penalty for one charge and a life sentence for the other.
On 18 December 2014, Mobarak filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against the tribunal's verdict. The appeal, spanning 862 pages including the 82-page main appeal, was submitted to the relevant branch of the Appellate Division.
Mobarak served as the organising secretary of the Mogra Union Awami League in Akhaura upazila, Brahmanbaria, until 2012, before his expulsion. Before his involvement with the Awami League, he was associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Among the five charges, the tribunal's verdict confirmed two: charge number one, concerning the killing of 33 people in Tanmandail and Jangail villages under Akhaura, for which he was sentenced to death; and charge number three, relating to the murder of Abdul Khalek in Chhatiyan village, for which he received a life sentence.
He was acquitted of the remaining three charges due to a lack of sufficient evidence. These charges included the torture of Ashuranjan Deb at the Anandamayee Kalibari Razakar camp (charge two), the abduction of two individuals and murder of one in Shyampur village (charge four), and the detention and torture of a person in Kharampur village (charge five).
