Eviction drive to be conducted at night too, if needed: Dhaka north administrator
The ongoing eviction drives by the Dhaka North City Corporation to free footpaths and roads, which are conducted during the day, may be extended to nighttime if required, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has said.
"We have started a crackdown against encroachment of walkways and roads. The drive is not only for a day. It will be conducted day and night," he said during a public hearing with the residents of DNCC Region-4 at Ward-4 Community Centre in Mirpur today (16 April).
The drives will be conducted from Mirpur Section-1 to Section-13 for three straight days next week, he mentioned.
The administrator said any illegal business that encroaches upon roads and walkways will not be allowed. "We will provide trade licences and extend support to those operating their business in a legitimate manner."
He also said a drive will be launched within the next week to stop battery-run rickshaws from plying on Mirpur's main roads.
Noting that the implementation of an online system for issuing DNCC trade licences has helped to eliminate corruption in this process, the administrator also announced plans to digitise birth registration to curb the sufferings experienced by the public.
DNCC has organised public hearings in its 10 Regions to hear from its residents. Meanwhile, the hearings in Regions 1,2,3 and 4 have been held.
Responding to a query regarding mosquito prevention at the Region-4 public hearing, the administrator said a list of the area-based manpower for mosquito prevention and sanitation, along with their names and phone numbers, will be posted on the DNCC website. "It will be implemented from next week."
Complaints can be filed against them in case of any negligence in duty, he said.
