Even if an Islamic scholar heads home ministry, he has to issue liquor licenses as part of state duty: Adviser Khalid
The adviser made the remark today (25 October) while addressing daily Naya Diganta’s anniversary celebration programme held at the National Art Gallery in Dhaka.
Even if a prominent Islamic scholar were appointed to head the Ministry of Home Affairs, he would still have to issue liquor licenses as part of his official duty to the state, Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has said.
The adviser made the remark today (25 October) while addressing daily Naya Diganta's anniversary celebration programme held at the National Art Gallery in Dhaka.
"As a Muslim, I go to the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to pray. But I also go to the Dhakeshwari Temple to perform my state duties," he said, adding, "Anyone holding the position of religious affairs minister or adviser must work for the welfare of people of all religions and strengthen interfaith harmony."
He claimed that a certain group in the country is trying to destroy communal harmony. "The Ministry of Religious Affairs is working to ensure that they fail in their attempts," he said.
Adviser Khalid further said, "When I am no longer an adviser, I will not need to go to temples or pagodas. Then I will go only to the mosque."
