The European Union (EU) has laid emphasis on empowering civil society in building a more democratic future for Bangladesh.

"The European Union is working with the Bangladesh Election Commission and civil society in view of preparations for the next elections," said the EU Embassy in Dhaka in a statement today (22 June).

It said EU's partner ANFREL, powered by the EPD, hosted a three-day workshop on citizen election observation in Dhaka from 18-20 June.
