EU envoys pledge stronger Bangladesh-EU cooperation at meeting with FM Khalilur

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, along with ambassadors of EU member states resident in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman today (23 February), reaffirming commitment to strengthening Bangladesh–EU engagement.
During the meeting, the EU ambassadors congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) landslide victory in the parliamentary elections and felicitated the foreign minister on his new appointment.
In the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the evolution of Bangladesh-EU relations into a multifaceted partnership.
The ambassadors reaffirmed their intention to work closely with the Bangladesh government to further strengthen this longstanding, mutually beneficial relationship.
The EU officials also lauded Bangladesh's democratic transition and reiterated their support for constitutional, judicial, labour, and other reforms.
Foreign Minister Khalilur also expressed appreciation for the EU's deployment of a large Election Observation Mission (EOM) during the national elections and reiterated the government's commitment to democratic consolidation, rule of law, and good governance.
Discussions also focused on trade and economic cooperation, including the potential launch of negotiations for a comprehensive Bangladesh-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Other topics of mutual interest discussed included regional and global developments, humanitarian issues, water resource management, climate change, maritime economy, migration management, skill development, and employment generation.
