River research should be more science-driven: PM's adviser Titumir
He added that the prime minister has said policies will now be formulated on a scientific basis, and that the resources generated from rivers need to be used appropriately.
River research activities need to become more grounded in rigorous research and science, Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has said.
While speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with officials of the River Research Institute after visiting Karim Jute Mill and the institute in Faridpur this afternoon (17 April), he said late President Ziaur Rahman had shown that a green revolution is possible if rivers, canals and water resources are properly utilised.
He added that the prime minister has said policies will now be formulated on a scientific basis, and that the resources generated from rivers need to be used appropriately.
Titumir also said that the Planning Commission will review 1,300 projects across the country.
He added that it is very important to utilise river resources effectively.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam was present as a special guest at the event.
