Like the rest of the country, Dhaka is also experiencing a cold wave with foggy weather prevailing over the city.

The intensity of the cold has increased over the last two days, which has come with rain-like fog and chilly wind.

There was no sign of the sun even till 9:45am and the roads remain wet with dew. In this situation vehicles were seen with headlights on even during daytime.

The number of people on the streets were few as it is a weekly holiday, while those who had come out of their comfortable homes had to endure biting cold as multiple layers of warm clothing could not stop them from shivering.

Like always, the most vulnerable are the daily wage earners, who cannot afford enough protection from the cold.

The country's lowest temperature today was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius at Panchagarh's Tetulia, while the second lowest temperature was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius at Kurigram's Rajarhat, Prothom Alo reported.

In a notice signed by Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk and published yesterday (2 January), the met office said the the ongoing weather condition will continue for the next few days but the day and night temperatures will rise slightly till Sunday evening (5 January).

During this time, dense fog will remain across the country since midnight till the morning, which may hamper air, riverine and road transport, the notice said.
