Endangered Pallas's Fish Eagle rescued after electrocution in Ctg
Local says, the bird came into contact with an overhead electric wire while attempting to catch fish from a local pond
An endangered Pallas's Fish Eagle was rescued after being severely injured by electrocution in Satkania upazila's Uttar Chadaha area of Chattogram yesterday (29 November).
Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Nur Jahan said the eagle was taken to the Dulahazara Safari Park for treatment.
"It has sustained severe injuries on its legs. We will know more about its condition after a few days of treatment," she said.
Chanchal Kumar Torafdar, beat officer of Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary, said that the Pallas's Fish Eagle is an endangered species. He noted that habitat loss and food scarcity have led to a rapid decline in its population in recent years.
According to locals, the bird came into contact with an overhead electric wire while attempting to catch fish from a local pond.
It fell into the water moments after the incident. A youth from the area spotted the distressed bird and immediately informed the authorities.
