Dr Saimum Parvez urges people to offer saplings instead of flower bouquets
He called on political parties, government institutions, public officials and citizens to adopt the practice of presenting native tree saplings instead of flowers
Dr Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, has urged residents and well-wishers to welcome him with tree saplings instead of flower bouquets during his upcoming visit to Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.
Speaking to The Business Standard about the visit, he said, "Those who wish to welcome me may bring a sapling of a native tree instead of a flower bouquet. It would serve as a gesture of welcome while also making a positive contribution to the environment."
Dr Parvez said, "The suggestion is not limited to his visit and encouraged everyone to adopt the practice. Rather than presenting flowers at receptions, social events and other occasions, people should offer saplings as gifts."
He also called on people from all political parties, government institutions, public officials and representatives of different organisations to follow the same practice.

"This should not be confined to any individual, party or organisation. Everyone can replace flower bouquets with saplings and help establish an environmentally responsible culture," he said.
According to Dr Parvez, flower bouquets usually wither within a short period, while a tree can survive for years and contribute to the environment, biodiversity and future generations.
Addressing local residents, organisers and well-wishers ahead of his Shibganj visit, he said promoting native fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal tree saplings as gifts could help turn tree planting into a broader social movement.
