Titas starts drilling new well; 15 million cubic feet of gas expected daily
Currently, 22 active wells in the Titas Gas Field are supplying around 335 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid.
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) has initiated drilling for a new well at the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria.
The drilling work for the new well, designated as Well No. 28, began today (15 December) at the Titas gas field in Suhilpur, under the district's Sadar upazila. The drilling project was officially launched by Md Shoaib, director of Petrobangla, in a ceremony held at the site.
The new well is expected to contribute approximately 15 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid once drilling is completed.
According to project officials, a survey was conducted at the Titas gas field's 'C' location back in 2012 to locate new gas reserves. In 2020, following a review of the survey report, BGFCL decided to drill three new wells in the Titas field.
As part of the plan, another well will be drilled at the Kamta Gas Field in Gazipur. The drilling of four wells across Titas and Kamta fields is estimated to cost around Tk1,250 crore. Upon completion, the total daily gas output from these wells is expected to be 55 million cubic feet.
Currently, 22 active wells in the Titas Gas Field are supplying around 335 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid. The drilling of the 28th well is being carried out by a Chinese company, and it is expected to take approximately two months to complete. Once operational, the new well will add 15 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid daily.
Md Shoaib stated that the production at gas fields operated by BGFCL has already increased. He expressed confidence that the new wells and ongoing workover projects would significantly alleviate the country's energy crisis. Additionally, the drilling of deep wells at Titas' 31st location and at the Bakhrabad Gas Field's Well No 11 are also part of ongoing initiatives to meet the growing energy demand in the country.
The inauguration event was attended by the Managing Director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited, Engineer Mohammad Faruk Hossain, Company Secretary Mozaffar Ali, and Director of the Titas and Meghna Field's four-well drilling project, AKM Jasim Uddin, among others.
