Rooppur nuclear power plant to supply 1,200MW to national grid by Dec
"Fuel loading at the plant will begin on 7 April. Trial power generation is expected to start between June and July," Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury says.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced that the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be able to supply 1,200 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid by the end of this year.
The minister made the statement today (12 March) after a meeting at the Planning Commission with Alexander Khozin, the Russian ambassador to Bangladesh.
Khasru said, "Fuel loading at the Rooppur plant will begin on 7 April. Following this, trial electricity production is expected to start between June and July. From the moment trial operations commence, electricity from the plant will be fed into the national grid."
"By December, the first unit is expected to supply its full capacity of 1,200MW to the grid," he added.
Officials noted that during the trial phase, the plant will not operate at full capacity. As a result, varying amounts of electricity will be supplied at different times, gradually ramping up to the full 1,200MW by December.
