No fuel shortage now or ahead, sufficient stock ensured: Energy minister
Power outages due to faults, not supply shortage, he says
There has never been a fuel shortage in the country, and there will be none, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku said today (5 May).
He made the remarks while briefing reporters after discussions on the power and energy situation on the third day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DCs) Conference.
"There has never been any fuel shortage. There is none now, and there will be none, as we are procuring sufficient stock," he said.
The minister said there is currently no load-shedding anywhere in the country, adding that outages, if any, are due to line faults rather than supply shortages.
He noted there is no load-shedding even in rural areas and said, "There is no load-shedding in villages. Our rural power lines are often very long. If a fault occurs, it takes time to locate it after switching, so power supply is disrupted. Once the fault is fixed, electricity returns."
Tuku said they presented the current power and energy situation at the DC conference.
"A few days ago, an artificial crisis was created. With their [DCs] support, we were able to overcome the problem, and we thanked them," he added.
