Govt expects 10 mmcfd gas from Kamta-2 well
The drilling is scheduled to be completed in six months
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit yesterday (20 May) inaugurated the drilling of an appraisal-cum-development well at the Kamta Gas Field in Gazipur.
Speaking at the inauguration, he said the Kamta-2 well is expected to add around 10 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to the national grid after drilling and testing, helping boost domestic supply.
The drilling work is being carried out by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) under Petrobangla and is scheduled to be completed within six months.

State Minister Amit said the government has undertaken four appraisal-cum-development well drilling projects at the Titas and Kamta gas fields to increase domestic gas production, reduce reliance on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), and strengthen energy security.
According to project details, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the project on 2 February with an estimated cost of Tk1,255 crore, of which Tk872.20 crore will be financed by the government and Tk382.80 crore by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company.
Under the project, three wells will be drilled at the Titas gas field and one at Kamta, alongside the appointment of foreign consultants, construction of a gas gathering pipeline in Titas, installation of a process plant in Kamta, and other ancillary works.
Petrobangla Chairman Md Abdul Mannan, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Chairman Mohammad Mohsin, its Managing Director Engineer Md Abdul Jalil Pramanik and others concerned were present.
