Govt to announce reward for informants of fuel hoarders
According to officials, the initiative comes amid growing concerns that some traders may attempt to create artificial shortages by stockpiling fuel.
The government is set to introduce rewards for informants who provide information on illegal fuel hoarding, as part of a broader effort to stabilise supply and prevent market manipulation.
Officials at the Energy and Mineral Resources Division shared the move to the media today (27 March).
According to officials, the initiative comes amid growing concerns that some traders may attempt to create artificial shortages by stockpiling fuel.
"Those who can provide specific information about illegal hoarding will be rewarded," the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement.
The ministry also said vigilance teams have already been formed in all districts to strengthen monitoring of fuel distribution and stock levels across the country.
The teams will include members of the local administration, law enforcement agencies and other relevant departments. They will supervise fuel depots, filling stations and transportation to prevent illegal hoarding and ensure smooth supply.
To restore discipline in the fuel sector, the government has already deployed mobile courts and taken other legal measures, although those steps have so far failed to produce the expected results, officials said.
