Green energy must for sustainable development: Hamid
The expansion of green energy is a must for sustainable development, keeping the environment safe, said Nasrul Hamid MP, state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, on Monday.
"For overall development, emphasis must be given on efficiency and conservation of clean and renewable fuels." he said while addressing the closing workshop of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP II), a technical cooperation project and a joint undertaking between the Bangladesh government and Germany.
The existing incentives for renewable energy will continue, Nasrul Hamid added.

In collaboration with Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implemented REEEP II on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
REEEP II aimed to promote cooperation among the power division and other stakeholders to achieve national targets on renewable energy and energy efficiency, to support implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Master plan up to 2030.
SREDA Chairman Mohammad Alauddin chaired the event, which was moderated by Mohammad Hossain, director general at Power Cell of the ministry of Power Energy and Mineral Resource.
Former SREDA Chairman Anwarul Islam Sikder, Dr M Nurul Islam, a former Buet professor, Md Abdur Rouf Miah, additional chief engineer at the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Abdullah Hil Rakib, director at the BGMEA, Dipal Barua, president at the Bangladesh Solar and renewable Energy Association, and Dr Angelika Fleddermann, country director at GIZ Bangladesh, spoke as panelists.
The panellists shared their vision for SREDA and highlighted the important role the organisation will continue to play as Bangladesh moves forward on its development journey.
Among others, Fatima Yasmin, secretary at the Economic Relations Division of the finance ministry, Md Habibur Rahman, secretary of Power Division, and Achim Tröster, German Ambassador to Bangladesh, joined the event virtually.
