BPDB, Adani to meet this month to resolve power deal disputes
Both sides assign panels for negotiations

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Adani Power Limited are set to hold crucial negotiations on 22-23 June to address long-standing disputes over payment terms, coal pricing, and tax benefit provisions under their Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
In a letter dated 21 May 2025, Adani Power informed BPDB that it had formed a panel of dispute resolution experts under Section 19.3 of the PPA and invited the Board to nominate its own experts to facilitate discussions.
In response, BPDB appointed its Company Affairs Secretary ANM Obaidullah to lead a four-member delegation to the talks.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said, "Adani wants to resolve the disputes both parties have in the PPA. The Adani team and BPDB have a schedule to meet soon."
BPDB Chairman Md Rezaul Karim also confirmed receiving the letter and told TBS that negotiations would take place on 22–23 June.
Bangladesh had raised concerns over several disputed clauses in the PPA well before Adani's 1,600MW Godda power plant in India began supplying electricity to Bangladesh in April 2023.
Since 22 November 2024, Adani has sent six letters to BPDB urging payment of outstanding dues – the most recent dated 9 May 2025.
Earlier in May, Adani Power CEO Shersingh B Khyalia met the BPDB chairman and expressed willingness to resolve disputes regarding payments and coal pricing.
The original agreement, signed in 2017, committed Adani to supply electricity from its Godda plant to Bangladesh for 25 years.
According to BPDB and Power Division officials, Adani's move to appoint a dispute resolution panel appears to be an effort to pressurise BPDB into clearing the overdue payments.
BPDB sources say Adani is claiming nearly $600 million in unpaid bills, although BPDB estimates the figure to be close to $500 million.
A Power Division official confirmed that during an earlier meeting, Adani showed flexibility in aligning billing procedures with BPDB's accounting system and urged an early settlement.
