12kg LPG cylinder price further hiked to Tk1,313

- In last four months price increased by Tk422
- Auto gas price increased to Tk61.16
In the current month, consumers will have to pay an additional Tk54 for availing each 12kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder provided by private companies as the government has increased LPG price by Tk4.5 per kg.
A 12kg cylinder, the price of which was hiked to Tk1,259 last month, now will cost Tk1,313.
Md. Abdul Jalil, Chairman at Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new prices in a virtual press conference held on Thursday.
With this, the 12kg LPG cylinder price has increased by Tk422 in the last four months as the price was Tk891 in July.
Meanwhile, the price per litre of auto gas has been fixed to Tk61.18 for November month which was Tk58.68 last month.
The price of per kg centrally controlled (reticulated) LPG has increased from Tk101.6 to Tk106.19 .
Md. Abdul Jalil said that the new price has been adjusted following the Saudi Contract Price(CP) of Propane and Butane, the raw material of LPG.
"As per the Saudi CP for November month, the Propane and Butane price is $870 tonnes and 830 tonnes respectively," he said.
However, the price of government owned LPG cylinder remains unchanged due to no changes in raw material which is sourced from local gas fields.
Private operators previously were at liberty to set their prices on their own. But on 12 April this year, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission determined and set the price for LPG for the first time, both for the public and private sector.
Currently, the country consumes around 11 lakh tonnes of LPG each year as the usage ranges from cooking to refuelling vehicles. Some 28 private operators are fulfilling around 98% of the total demand.
