Embassy gift for detained Bangladeshis at Amman rehabilitation centre
Ambassador Nahida Sobhan handed over 103 boxes of clothes, soap and telephone cards to the director of the rehabilitation centre for distribution among the detained Bangladeshis
Bangladesh Ambassador to Jordan Nahida Sobhan visited the Jwaideh Rehabilitation Centre in Amman to hand over essential items to detained Bangladeshis.
Dalal Sawalha, director of the Jwaideh Rehabilitation Centre, gave a warm welcome to the ambassador at the rehabilitation centre. The Bangladesh ambassador thanked Dalal Sawalha for making arrangements for his visit to the rehabilitation centre.
There are 103 Bangladeshi women in the Jwaideh Rehabilitation Centre. Of them, 87 have been detained for administrative reasons, two have been detained for judicial reasons and 14 have been convicted in various criminal cases.

Those detained for administrative reasons are usually detained for a short period of 15-20 days to complete their paperwork to return home.
However, they have been waiting at the centre for four months as the airport was closed during the coronavirus epidemic.
Due to this epidemic situation, the number of detained Bangladeshis has increased markedly. In this situation, there has been a shortage of some essential items for their daily use.
On behalf of the embassy, Ambassador Nahida Sobhan handed over 103 boxes of clothes, soap and telephone cards to the director of the rehabilitation centre for distribution among the detained Bangladeshis.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman, first secretary of the embassy's labour branch, was present there with the ambassador at the time.
The rehabilitation centre director thanked the ambassador and appreciated the efforts of the embassy in assisting the detained Bangladeshis by providing necessary materials in this time of crisis.
