A mother and her three-year-old son have been killed, and the father hospitalised as a truck rear-ended their motorcycle in Kushtia.

The tragic accident took place around 10am this morning (28 March) at the bypass roundabout on the Kushtia-Ishwardi highway.

Abdul Kader, who works at a private institution in Bogura, was returning home to Kushtia with his wife and child on a motorcycle during the Eid holiday break.

The deceased have been identified as Iti Khatun, 28, Kader's wife, and their three-year-old son Ahnaf Ibrahim.

"A speeding drum truck crashed into the bike carrying them in Trimohini Bypass intersection," said Joydeb Kumar, in charge of the Chaudhas highway police outpost.

He said the accident left the mother and the son dead on the spot. Their bodies have been sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The hospital's resident physician, Dr Imam Hossain, said the injured father had been discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid.

Joydeb said legal proceedings are underway over the incident. The truck driver, however, could not be apprehended.
