UITS VC says such initiatives help build a knowledge-based society
Exploring the philosophical foundations of law is essential to ensuring justice in practice, former Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed said yesterday (22 May) at a seminar hosted by University of Information Technology and Sciences in Dhaka.
Speaking at the seminar titled "Understanding the Philosophical and Jurisprudential Foundations of Law" at the university's permanent campus in Baridhara, Refat Ahmed stressed the need for law students and legal professionals to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between legal theory and the practical administration of justice, according to a press release.
The event was organised by the university's Law Department at the Moot Court Room of the campus.
UITS Adviser and Appellate Division lawyer Md Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan delivered the welcome address.
As guest of honour, Ekushey Padak-winning industrialist and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UITS and PHP Family Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman called on students to uphold morality, honesty and hard work in both their personal and professional lives.
Former dean of the Faculty of Law at University of Chittagong Professor Abdullah Al Faruk joined the seminar as a special guest and presented an analytical reflection on the keynote paper.
Numayer Mizan Amir, representing the third generation of the PHP family, also attended the programme.
UITS Vice-Chancellor Md Abu Hasan Bhuiyan said such academic initiatives contribute significantly to advancing critical legal research and intellectual engagement.
The programme ended with a crest presentation and prize distribution ceremony honouring winners of the "1st Intra-UITS Law Colloquium".
Teachers, researchers and students from different faculties of the university attended the seminar.
