The government has decided to reopen public and private universities on 24 May next in the face of protests at different universities across the country

The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have suspended all examinations at the university until 24 May this year.

Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of the university, made this announcement on Monday afternoon.

He said the second round of final exams will start after the reopening of the university on 24 May. New exam schedules will be published for the suspended exams later.

The final exams of first, second and third years were scheduled to be held from 1 March. Eight out of 28 departments of the university published exam schedules, according to university office sources.

"We started the fourth year and master's exams on 17 January and continued for one month till 17 February. A few exams of some departments are yet to be held. The rest of the exams will be held as per the government directions," he added.               

Along with other educational institutions, Shahjalal University was declared closed on 17 March 2020 after the detection of the first coronavirus cases in the country on 8 March.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to reopen public and private universities on 24 May next in the face of protests at different universities across the country.

Residential halls of public universities will be reopened on 17 May.  

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni made the disclosure on Monday afternoon in a virtual briefing on various issues concerning higher education amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, no examinations will be taken before the reopening of the educational institutions, but online classes will continue.

"Before reopening, teachers, students and employees will be vaccinated," the minister added.
