NTRCA retains teacher recruitment role; registration exam to have 3 stages
The new system will take effect only after the education ministry approves the proposals and issues a circular.

The Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) will retain responsibility for recommending teachers for private educational institutions, while the teacher registration examination will be expanded to three stages under a proposed new system.
Candidates will have to pass preliminary, written and viva voce examinations under the new system, according to a decision taken at a meeting of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry today (1 September).

The meeting discussed NTRCA's revised procedure for teacher recruitment recommendations and the proposed syllabus for the registration examination.
At present, candidates who pass the preliminary examination proceed directly to the viva voce. Under the proposed system, a written examination will be introduced between the preliminary and viva stages.
Candidates who pass the preliminary examination will be eligible to sit for the written test, while only those who pass the written examination will be allowed to appear for the viva voce.
The meeting also discussed changes to the registration examination syllabus. The revised syllabus will be sent to the Education Ministry for approval, officials said.
Meanwhile, the government has scrapped an earlier decision to shift the responsibility for recommending teachers from NTRCA to another process.
The earlier resolution, which had drawn criticism, has been cancelled, and NTRCA will continue recommending candidates for teacher recruitment under the existing framework, officials said.
However, neither the revised examination structure nor the recruitment procedure has taken effect yet.
The proposed changes will first be sent to the education ministry for approval. Once approved, the ministry will issue a circular, after which NTRCA will begin recruitment activities under the new system.
