Discussions are underway with the education ministry to introduce 10 events from the Notun Kuri Sports programme at the school level, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque says.
A new textbook titled "Kheladhula" will be introduced in the fourth-grade curriculum from the next academic year, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said today (8 October).
"The government is also taking initiatives to introduce sports activities in schools throughout the year," he made the remarks while speaking at the annual sports competition prize-giving ceremony and cultural programme at Abbas Uddin High School in Dhaka's Mirpur.
He said the government wants to encourage students to participate in sports alongside their studies to keep them away from drugs and anti-social activities and help them grow into a healthy and disciplined generation.
"To achieve this, the new textbook 'Kheladhula' will be handed to fourth-grade students from the new academic year," he added.
The state minister also said discussions are underway with the education ministry to introduce 10 events from the Notun Kuri Sports programme at the school level.
Students will have opportunities to participate in various sports, including football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, chess, martial arts and swimming, he said.
Aminul further said, "We will not spend the entire year only studying. Alongside education, there will also be sports. Through sports and cultural activities, we want to build a healthy, humane and disciplined generation."
Students performed dance and music at the concluding session.
Earlier, the state minister inaugurated a Wasa water pump in Block B of Mirpur Section 11, another water pump adjacent to Block C of Section 10, and a facility for washing the bodies of deceased people.
