IUB hosts undergraduate law research conference with participation from 20 universities
The School of Law of Independent University, Bangladesh organised the "3rd IUB Undergraduate Law Students' Research Conference" on 7–8 May, with participation from 20 universities across Bangladesh.
The conference focused on contemporary legal issues through research paper presentations and panel evaluations.
A total of 56 papers were submitted by students from eight public and 12 private universities, of which 40 were selected for presentation in 10 sessions.
The papers covered topics such as structural discrimination, cyber law, artificial intelligence, environmental crises, constitutional reform, stray animal protection and digital rights.
Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, adviser to the School of Law, attended the inaugural session as the chief guest.
Professor Dr Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, head of the Department of Law, delivered the welcome address.
School of Law Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian also spoke at the session.
The panellists included University of Dhaka Professor Dr Rumana Islam and Dr Taslima Yasmin; North South University Professor Dr Md Rizwanul Islam; American International University-Bangladesh's Dr Robayet Ferdous Syed; East West University's Dr Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub; and Bangladesh Competition Commission's Dr Afroza Bilkis.
IUB was represented by Professor Dr Md Abdul Awal Khan, Professor Dr Assaduzzaman, Dr Md Anisur Rahman, Dr Hassan Al Imran, Dr Liton Chandra Biswas, Dr Md Monjur Hasan and Dr Md Toriqul Islam.
The panellists evaluated the papers based on analytical depth, organisation, presentation, use of visual aids, time management, and responses during question-and-answer sessions.
All participants received certificates of participation, while 10 participants received recognition for outstanding papers.
The recognised students were Md Ashifuzzaman Anik from the University of Dhaka; Md Ibrahim Khalilullah from State University of Bangladesh; Nurshalin Islam Shifat from Bangladesh University of Business and Technology; Tanvir Ahmed Tusher from Noakhali Science and Technology University; Razwan Ahmed from the University of Asia Pacific; Naima Sultana Anika from the University of Dhaka; Sushmita Protimo Ghosh Puja from IUB; Sanjida Armin Meem from Gopalganj Science and Technology University; Md Shuvo Zaman Shanto from Eastern University; and Afrida Anwar from IUB.
IUB Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Daniel W Lund attended the closing ceremony.
The conference concluded with remarks from Conference Convenor Professor Dr Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan.
