The sprawling 2,300-acre green campus of the University of Chittagong has been transformed into a vibrant and celebratory city as it prepares for its much-anticipated fifth convocation.

After a hiatus of nine years, this convocation is set to be the largest in the nation's history in terms of participation, with an impressive 22,586 graduates scheduled to attend the ceremony tomorrow (14 May).

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus will attend the event as the convocation speaker and will be conferred with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. The event will commence at 2:00pm and conclude at 4:00pm, preceded by a grand procession at 1:45pm.

To facilitate transport, 100 buses and shuttle trains have been arranged from the city, with all private vehicles restricted from campus for security reasons.

A full rehearsal was held yesterday afternoon, covering every ceremonial aspect—from the academic procession and proper seating arrangements to the donning of gowns and caps, certificate presentation protocols, arrival of dignitaries, and rendition of the national anthem.

Graduates have collected their academic regalia, capturing memories at cherished campus spots, and sharing the moment with family members.

A massive marquee has been erected at the central sports ground with designated seating, guest stalls, medical facilities, and catering arrangements. Multiple security forces, including the Special Security Force (SSF), have been deployed to ensure a safe environment.
Large LED screens have been installed across the campus to enable guests and guardians to view the ceremony live.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Yeahia Akhter stated, "Our campus feels like it's celebrating Eid. Months of hard work have culminated in this joyful day. We are honoured to welcome Yunus and seek the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful convocation."

Graduates expressed deep joy and nostalgia. Shahidul Sumon from the Department of Communication and Journalism shared, "It's a surreal feeling reconnecting with old friends after seven years. I've brought my wife, also a CU graduate."
