Cabinet says no to music teacher posts in govt primary schools: Edu minister
The minister disclosed the decision in a written reply to a question from Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Md Nurul Islam during a parliamentary session.
The Cabinet Division has declined a proposal to create music teacher positions in government primary schools, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said in parliament today (14 June).
The minister disclosed the decision in a written reply to a question from Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Md Nurul Islam during a parliamentary session presided over by deputy speaker Kayser Kamal.
The lawmaker had sought clarification regarding the current status of the proposed assistant teacher (Music) post under the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules 2025.
In response, the minister said the cabinet division had not approved the creation of a dedicated teaching position for music in primary schools.
Earlier on 28 August 2025, the interim government issued the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules 2025, allowing the recruitment of assistant teachers in specialised subjects, including music and physical education, alongside general teaching positions.
However, the provisions faced opposition from religion-based organisations, which organised protests and raised objections to the inclusion of music teaching posts in primary education.
Amid the opposition from several religion-based organisations, the interim government amended the recruitment rules in November, 2025, removing the provisions for recruiting teachers in music and physical education, retaining only the posts of head teacher and general assistant teacher.
