BTA demands nationalisation of secondary education

Bangladesh Teachers Association (BTA) has demanded nationalisation of secondary education, in order to drive out the prevailing disparity between government and non-government institutions at the level.

The speakers noted that the country's education system has a huge disparity between the government and non-government streams.

The only way to eliminate the inequality is to nationalise the education system, specially at the secondary level, they said.
Addressing the programme as chief guest, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor ASM Maksud Kamal said the rate of education in our country has increased in comparison to that of the neighbouring countries.
But the high rate will not be effective if the quality of education is not improved, he said, adding that quality of education needs to be improved for building well-educated human resources.
He stressed on teachers' movement in ensuring quality education. He said, "The number of educated people will increase with the literacy rate. But it will not build well-educated human resources."
The state must be compelled to provide everything that is conducive to education. At the same time, the institutional skills of teachers need to be enhanced, he added.
The event was presided over by BTA President Bazlur Rahman Miah and moderated by its General Secretary Sheikh Kawsar Ahmed.
Writer Anisul Haque, Senior Vice President of BTA Abul Kashem, among others, spoke on the occasion.
