Ducsu polls: 48 to contest for vice president, 19 for general secretary

The preliminary list of candidates for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election has been published.

According to the initial list, a total of 48 candidates are contesting for the vice president (VP) post, 19 for the general secretary (GS) position, and 28 for the assistant general secretary (AGS) post.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Jasim Uddin stated that a total of 462 candidates have been initially deemed valid, while 47 candidates have been placed on a list of those with faulty nominations.
"Those with faulty nominations will be given until 23 August to appeal," he added.
The election is being held for 28 positions in total.
The preliminary list also includes 15 candidates for the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs secretary; 11 for Science and Technology secretary; 11 for Common Room, Reading Room, and Cafeteria secretary; 15 for International Affairs secretary; 19 for Literary and Cultural secretary; 11 for Research and Publication secretary; 13 for Sports secretary; nine for Student Transport secretary; 13 for Social Service secretary; 12 for Career Development secretary; 15 for Health and Environment secretary; 11 for Human Rights and Law Affairs secretary; and 215 for member positions.
As per the election schedule, the last date for withdrawing candidacies is 25 August at 1pm.
The final list of candidates will be published on 26 August at 4pm, with voting scheduled for 9 September.
