Ducsu-elected Shibir leaders pay tribute at Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial
The leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, who won in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections, offered prayers at the Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial today (11 September).
The newly elected leaders first offered prayers at the mass graves of the 2024 July Uprising martyrs. They also paid homage to martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
Speaking to The Business Standard, newly elected Ducsu Vice President (VP) Shadik Kayem said, "Today we prayed at the Rayerbazar graves for the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, visited the mass graves of the July Revolution martyrs, and also paid our respects at the grave of Nawab Salimullah, one of the pioneers in establishing Dhaka University.

"It is through the sacrifices of these martyrs that we have the freedom we enjoy today, so remembering them is our foremost duty."
He added, "Guided by the aspirations of the martyrs, we want to shape Dhaka University and make this oldest university in the country fully inclusive for everyone."

He further said, "The martyrs are our beacon of inspiration. The new committee will strive to revive their aspirations in a meaningful way. Just as we worked in July [2024], we aim to spread the message of democracy from Dhaka University everywhere."
DU unit Chhatra Shibir President and Ducsu GS SM Farhad said, "This victory is not just for Chhatra Shibir, it is a victory for the students. Serving the students remains our primary goal."
Some media reports say this is the first time Shibir has offered prayers at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial graveyard in Rayerbazar.
