A Dubai-bound passenger was detained with foreign currencies worth over Tk2.44 crore at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram today (18 September).

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Jakir Hossain, a resident from Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur but he resides in Bangshal area in Old Dhaka.

Md Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer of the airport, told media that when Dubai-bound 'BS-343' flight of the US Bangla Airlines from Dhaka landed at the airport detectives of Customs Intelligence and National Security Intelligence detained the passenger with the currencies.

The detectives recovered 7,70,000 Saudi Riyals and 46,000 UAE Dirham, equivalent to Tk2.44 crore.

Process was underway to hand over him to Patenga Police Station and a case will be filed against him under the Money Laundering Act, the public relations officer said.
