Dreams turn to ashes as 16-year-old Muna dies in Mirpur fire three days into new job

Sixteen-year-old Muna Akhter had just started her new job three days ago, with the hope to build a better life with her husband, whom she married just six months earlier.
Originally from Netrakona, Muna came to Dhaka in search of work about six months ago. But her dreams were cut short when she was burned to death in the devastating fire that swept through a building in Mirpur's Shialbari area.
Her elder sister, Champa Akhter, identified her body at the morgue, in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday night, by the pink kameez she had been wearing.
Champa said, "It's only been three days since she started work. She told me this time she'd finally get her life together. Who knew her chance to build a life would end in ashes."
After preliminary identification, Muna's body has been sent for DNA testing before being handed over to her family.
