Mohammad Refaul Karim Chowdhury has been elected chairman, and Mahmudur Rahman as secretary of the Dhaka Regional Committee (DRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).

The new chairman and secretary of the DRC of ICAB were elected recently at a meeting. Their fresh term is effective from 1 January 2025, according to an ICAB press release today.

Mohammad Refaul Karim Chowdhury, born in 1982 in Chattogram, is a fellow member of ICAB, IFA (UK), and IPA (Australia).

A qualified chartered accountant since 2011, he is also a VAT consultant, Microsoft certified trainer, and certified financial modeller and valuation analyst.

He currently serves as DGM-Finance at Transcom Distribution Company Ltd. and has held roles in various industries, including telecommunication, ITES, RMG, real estate, and autonomous bodies.

He has expertise in company affairs, secretarial work, IPO preparation, tax planning, financial modelling, business intelligence, and integrating and implementing ERP systems.

As a dedicated trainer and faculty member of DRC-ICAB, Chowdhury has trained over 200 ICAB members and more than 4,000 students on topics including Excel, Financial Modeling, PowerPoint, VAT, and Income Tax.

He is a founding member of the Bangladesh VAT Bar Association and an active contributor to the ICAB through his involvement in various committees.

Mahmudur Rahman currently serves as Director (Assurance & Advisory) at ACNABIN, Chartered Accountants. Rahman qualified as a chartered accountant in 2012; in this route, he was an articled student at ACNABIN Chartered Accountants.

Currently, he is a member of DRC-ICAB and a member of a few other Committees. He also serves as a resource person at the ICAB Academic Campus, other professional institutions, and universities.

Rahman has also participated in different high-level training as arranged by IFRS/IAS and other professional bodies.

Rahman is also the treasurer of the Accounting Alumni of the University of Dhaka. He has been serving the Alumni since 2014.
