Don’t serve political agenda, remain neutral: Home adviser tells police
Jahangir Alam added that the new officers must dedicate themselves to justice and serve people without discrimination based on religion, race, or political affiliation

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged police officers to remain neutral, refrain from serving any political agenda, and uphold professionalism in their duties.
He made the remarks while addressing the graduation parade of probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) of the 40th BCS (Police) batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, today (23 February).
"Bangladesh belongs to all its citizens, not to any party, group, or community. The Bangladesh Police are independent employees of the republic who follow specific laws. As officers of the republic, they must work to ensure security for all citizens and uphold the rule of law. They must not act as a tool for any party, implement any political agenda, or engage in unprofessional or unlawful activities," he said.
Jahangir Alam added that the new officers must dedicate themselves to justice and serve people without discrimination based on religion, race, or political affiliation.
He directed them to maintain professionalism, sincerity, and responsibility, emphasising that citizens must not face harassment at police stations.
Addressing the graduating officers he said, "Today marks the completion of your one-year basic training. From now on, you will directly contribute to law enforcement and public service as well-trained, skilled officers. I welcome you to this new chapter of your professional life and extend my best wishes to those who demonstrated excellence during training."
The adviser also received the parade salute and distributed awards among trainees who excelled in various categories.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and the Principal of the Police Academy, Sardah, Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, were also present.
The graduation parade of the 40th BCS (Police) batch had been postponed twice before finally taking place today.
According to Police Academy sources, the officers began their one-year basic training on 20 October 2023. The passing-out parade was initially scheduled for 20 October last year, with over 1,500 invited guests, but was postponed the night before. A second attempt to hold the event on 24 November was also cancelled.
The batch originally consisted of 66 trainees, who were supposed to complete their training at least four months ago. However, due to various complications, the event was delayed. On 20 February, six probationary ASPs from this batch were dismissed due to different allegations.
