Domestic postal voting to open for three key groups after election schedule
The schedule is expected next week, following a courtesy meeting between the EC and the president on 10 December.
Voters engaged in election duties, government employees residing outside their registered area, and voters under legal custody can register for postal voting in the 13th National Parliament Election through the Postal Vote BD app after the election schedule is announced, the Election Commission said.
The schedule is expected next week, following a courtesy meeting between the EC and the president on 10 December.
Registration for postal votes within Bangladesh will begin on the same day and continue until 25 December, alongside expatriate registration.
According to the EC, three groups inside the country — election-duty voters, government employees outside their voter area, and voters under legal custody — will have a 15-day window to register via the app.
Expatriates have already been registering through the Postal Vote BD app, which was inaugurated on 18 November.
As of 1pm today (6 December), about 195,000 overseas Bangladeshis had completed registration for postal ballots. Of these, 175,000 are male and over 19,000 are female.
The largest number of registrations came from Saudi Arabia (more than 38,000), followed by the United States (over 19,000), Singapore (over 11,000), Malaysia (around 11,000), and the United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates (over 10,000 each).
Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the "Out of Country Voting System Development & Implementation (OCV-SDI)" project, urged prospective voters to ensure they enter their correct address when registering.
"If necessary, you must provide the address of your workplace or a known person," he said, adding that if the address is wrong or incomplete, postal ballots cannot be delivered.
He reminded voters that the deadline to correct their address via the app's edit menu is today (6 December).
Expatriates will also have until 25 December to register for postal ballots.
According to EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, the same deadline applies nationwide for postal-vote registration once the schedule is announced.
