Father, grandmother arrested over toddler’s death in Ctg's Bakalia
The case includes charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
Police have arrested a young father and the child's grandmother over the death of a two-year-old boy in Bakalia, Chattogram, following allegations the child was fatally assaulted during a domestic dispute.
According to a Chattogram Metropolitan Police press release, the incident occurred on the night of 7 April in South Bakalia, when the child's mother, Sharmin Akter, 25, returned home from work.
Police said an altercation broke out involving her husband, Sajib, 22, allegedly instigated by his parents.
Sharmin was physically attacked during the event and sustained facial and ocular injuries.
At one point, their son, Ashraf Bin Samir, approached his mother. Investigators allege Sajib then forcefully took the child and threw him against a wall, causing severe head injuries.
The child later showed signs of critical distress, but instead of seeking treatment, the accused allegedly continued assaulting the mother. Sharmin eventually lost consciousness.
Police said the accused later told relatives the child died from illness and hurriedly buried him early today (9 April) to conceal the incident.
After regaining consciousness, the mother filed a case with Bakalia Police Station against her husband, mother-in-law Nur Nahar Begum, 40, and father-in-law Hanif, 55, accusing them of killing the child.
The case includes charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
