Burglar gets stuck in balcony grille mid-escape in Cumilla, video goes viral
A mobile court has sentenced Md Marzan Hossain Jihad to 20 days in jail.
A young man was caught stuck in iron grilles while attempting to flee after burgling a flat in Cumilla city's court area on Sunday (10 May), with a video recording of the incident going viral on social media a day later.
Md Marzan Hossain Jihad, 22, son of Abdul Barek of the Chhotra area of the city, had broken into the ground-floor flat of a building owned by Md Ali in the Islampur area, where a tenant family resides.
While trying to escape through the balcony grille, he became wedged: half his body outside and half trapped inside.
In the video, Jihad is seen stuck in the grille, struggling to free himself as curious onlookers gather around.
He can be heard crying out, "Sir, I cannot get out. I have a child."
After he was stuck for nearly half an hour, locals managed to pull him free and turned him over to the police.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Anwar said last night (11 May) that a mobile court sentenced the youth to 20 days in jail.
Eyewitness and neighbour Abdul Khalek said he and others heard shouting from the flat on Sunday afternoon and found the young man wedged in the grille. Jihad had squeezed through the grille to burgle the flat, he added.
