BNP leader, mother shot by assailants in Ctg
According to Osman’s father Rashid Ahmed, four armed attackers entered their home after 8pm and began firing indiscriminately.
A local BNP leader and his mother were seriously injured after unidentified assailants opened fire in their house in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram last night (22 March).
The injured, engineer Mohammad Osman, 42, is a resident of Ward No. 2 under Sarafbhata union and union BNP secretary. His mother, Asiya Begum, 70, also sustained bullet injuries in the attack.
According to Osman's father Rashid Ahmed, four armed attackers entered their home after 8pm and began firing indiscriminately. Osman suffered critical gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen. As his mother tried to shield him, she was shot in both legs. Rashid Ahmed also claimed he was physically assaulted by the attackers during the incident.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to the upazila health complex. Osman was later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated, while his mother is undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.
Officer-in-Charge of South Rangunia Police Station Md Hilal Uddin Ahmed confirmed the shooting and said police rushed to the scene after receiving the information.
"There are several armed terrorist groups in the area. We are trying to identify the attackers", he added.
"No case has been filed in this connection yet, but police have started investigating," the OC said.
