'Dhakaiya Akbar' shot by unidentified men in Ctg's Patenga

Ali Akbar, alias 'Dhakaiya Akbar' (44), a top criminal in Chattogram city, was shot and injured by unidentified assailants tonight (23 May).
The incident took place around 8:30pm in front of Shop No. 28 at Patenga Sea Beach.
According to eyewitnesses and police, Akbar was chatting with friends when suddenly 10-12 men arrived in cars and on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately at him. Akbar collapsed on the ground after being hit, and the gunmen fled the scene.
He was later rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he is currently under treatment.
The shooting caused panic among the large crowd gathered at the beach due to the weekend holiday.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media), Mahmuda Begum, said, "A person was shot at Patenga beach. He has been taken to the hospital. Police are investigating to identify those involved."
Akbar is the son of Manju Mia from the Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram. He has 10 criminal cases against him, including for murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion. Akbar is known as a rival of criminals Sajjad Hossain and Sarwar Hossain.
Akbar frequently posted videos on his Facebook account mocking Sajjad's wife, Tamanna Sharmin, and Sajjad himself. In response, Tamanna also posted videos threatening retaliation against Akbar.
Sajjad was arrested from a Dhaka shopping mall on 15 March.
On 29 March, gunmen targeted a private car on Baklia Access Road, killing two individuals. However, Sarwar Hossain, the intended target, survived.
In a court confession, one of the accused in that case stated they attacked Sarwar over five issues, including control over the jhut (garment waste) business and tipping off police about Sajjad.
