Dhaka calls for early FTA talks with EU to attract more investment.
Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division under the Chief Adviser's Office of Bangladesh, and Saida Shinichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides today (February 3).
Officials said the agreement entered into force.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement establishes a legal framework for handling defence equipment and technology to be transferred for jointly determined projects, including those contributing to international peace and security.
It also sets out procedures for confirming each transfer and rules on the proper use of the equipment and technology.
Japan said the agreement will ensure appropriate control over transferred defence equipment and technology, particularly regarding third-party transfer or use beyond the agreed purpose, and is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support Japan's defence industry and security.
