Dhaka South administrator vows to make a clean and green capital
He sought active cooperation from residents at all levels to transform Dhaka into a clean and green city.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has expressed his commitment to transform the capital into a clean and green city, saying he wants to beautify Dhaka just like a home courtyard.
"Collective efforts and awareness among citizens can transform Dhaka into a 'Clean City, Green City,'" he said while inaugurating a beautification project today (30 April) along the stretch from Gulistan Zero Point to Hotel InterContinental at Kakrail Mosque intersection in the capital.
The administrator said the initiative is part of the government's vision to build a "Clean City, Green City," adding that the road is being developed as an "ideal and model street."
"As part of the first phase of the project, a total of 54 decorative flower pots of various shapes have been installed along the road," Salam said.
Addressing issues such as footpath encroachment and damage to trees, he said it is not possible for the city corporation or police to maintain round-the-clock vigilance.
"If we plant trees but others uproot them, the effort will not yield results," Salam said, urging citizens to take a pledge not to throw waste outside designated bins and to act responsibly in protecting the environment.
Outlining future plans, he said the current project will be completed within a month. In the next phase, similar beautification initiatives will be undertaken in the Dhanmondi residential area and around its lake. The programme will gradually be expanded across the entire city.
Salam sought active cooperation from residents at all levels to transform Dhaka into a clean and green city.
