Punitive measures if found responsible in Aedes breeding: LGRD Minister

If the city-dwellers are found responsible for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes by keeping stored water in and around their homes despite repeated warnings from the authorities, punitive measures will be taken against them, said the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (LGRD) Md Tajul Islam.

The Minister said this during his address as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Aedes Mosquito, Dengue and Chikungunya Awareness Campaign organised by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in Mirpur on Saturday morning.

The LGRD Minister said that it is difficult for the city corporations to run mosquito eradication programs going door to door so the campaign aims to aware the mass.

"The entire community must not suffer due to the negligence of a few. Such negligence is punishable," he added.

He warned that if mosquito breeding grounds are not destroyed, the city corporation will take legal actions against the negligent people by conducting mobile courts.

During the campaign inauguration, the LGRD Minister distributed awareness leaflets among the people. He inspected several houses and affixed stickers on the properties where Aedes mosquito breeding grounds were found and directed the mobile courts to take necessary actions.

The mayor of Dhaka North Atiqul Islam, Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division Helaluddin Ahmed, and Actor Chanchal Chowdhury were present during the event among others.
