‘Debate over sculpture a conspiracy to disrupt development’
Speakers demand exemplary punishment to those involved in the vandalism of Bangabandhu sculpture
While the country's economy continues its upward trajectory, a vested quarter is trying to excite controversy over the sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with an aim to disrupt the ongoing development trend, speakers said at a programme on Friday.
"The fundamentalist forces will continue to conspire until they are eliminated from Bangladesh. We must unite and build resistance against them," said Robiul Isalm, secretary general of Kushtia Zilla Samity Dhaka while speaking at a human chain organised by the association in front of the National Press Club on Friday.

In his address, the association leader Robiul Islam said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman does not belong to any party, group or community.
"He is the asset of the country, and the great architect of independence. Bangabandhu is a constitutional issue. Creating a dispute with him is tantamount to sedition," added Robiul.
The speakers demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the vandalism of Bangabandhu sculpture.
MA Abdus Salam, president of the association, Joynal Abedin, vice-president, among others, spoke on the occasion.
