DCs asked to work with local representatives to combat flood

Prime minister's Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus has directed districts deputy commissioners to work together with local representatives and officials concerned to combat the flood that hit the country's northern part triggered by torrential rains.

He called upon them to assist the people devastated by the flood amid an adverse situation availing in the country due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Dr Kaikaus came up with the statements while presiding over a video conferencing with the deputy commissioners of 12 districts and ministries concerned over the flood situation in the country.

Senior Secretary of the Water Resources Ministry Kabir bin Anwar gave an overview of the flood situation and briefed the Prime Minister's Office on the steps taken to deal with the flood, including the relief allocated by the Disaster Management and Relief Secretary.

The field administration is fully prepared to deal with the flood situation and relief efforts are continuing with the participation of local people's representatives, said the deputy commissioners upon highlighting flood situations and steps taken in their respective areas.

Necessary steps are being taken to preserve and repair flood control dams, assess the damage to fisheries and livestock and agriculture. Besides, Union / Ward Committees are working round the clock to rescue and rehabilitate the affected people. So far 660 tonnes of GR rice and Tk67 lakh have been given to the flood-affected people in nine districts.

Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Md Tofazzal Hossain Mia, senior secretary of the Water Resources Ministry, Disaster Management and Relief secretary, food secretary, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisional Commissioners and the district deputy commissioners participated in the video conferencing.
