DB arrests Boro Sazzad’s close aide during attempt to flee country

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Golam Sarwar Khan, a close aide and cousin of Chattogram's alleged top criminal "Boro Sazzad", from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Sarwar was arrested around 11am yesterday (8 August) from the departure area for domestic flights at the airport, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Police said Sarwar had obtained Danish travel documents by using forged documents and identifying himself as a Myanmar citizen.

He was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to Oman using the documents.

"DB team conducted a raid at the airport and arrested him", DMP said.

According to police, Sarwar was involved in various criminal activities in Dhaka and Chattogram under Boro Sazzad, allegedly using his identity to carry out extortion and other offences.

Sarwar was produced before the court following his arrest, with police seeking a seven-day remand. 

He is currently in remand in Dhaka.

Confirming the arrest, Aminur Rashid, assistant commissioner (public relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), told The Business Standard that Sarwar was presented before court following his arrest in Dhaka and a seven-day remand was sought.

"He has been shown arrested in several cases filed in Dhaka," he said.

"There is no shortage of cases filed against Boro Sazzad and his associates. We are investigating them. After the investigation, we will apply to the court to show him arrested in cases filed by CMP," Aminur said.

CMP further stated that it is investigating Sarwar's alleged involvement in various crimes in Chattogram city, including his links with "Boro Sazzad" and his alleged role in criminal activities.
