DB arrests 4 over Gendaria gunfight linked to drug trade
Three people were injured in the 30 August shooting between rival groups in Swamibagh.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested four people with two foreign-made pistols, ammunition and yaba pills in connection with a gunfight between rival groups over control of the drug trade in Gendaria's Swamibagh area.
The arrestees are Farid Bepari, 23, Md Sabuj, 22, Shahadat Hossain Alif, 18, and Rifat Hossain, 19.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam disclosed the details at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre today (3 September).

The suspects were arrested during a raid on the ground floor of an under-construction building in the Mir Hajirbagh area of Gendaria, he said.
The gunfight took place between 7pm and 7:30pm on 30 August in the Swamibagh-Munshirteq area, leaving three people, including shopkeepers, injured.
Following the incident, Gendaria police and the DB's Wari division launched separate investigations.
Investigators analysed CCTV footage to identify those involved in the shooting and the suspected drug trade, according to the DB.
Preliminary questioning suggests that the four suspects are members of an organised criminal network involved in illegal firearms, violent crime and drug trafficking, the DB said.
A case has been filed against the four under the Arms Act with Jatrabari Police Station.
The DB said efforts to identify and arrest others involved in the gunfight are ongoing.
