Daylight robbery on moving bus in Savar: Armed men allegedly loot cash, gold

A robbery took place in broad daylight on a moving passenger bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar today (2 March), where armed men allegedly looted cash, mobile phones, and gold jewellery from passengers before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred at around 2:00pm, near the Bank Town area, targeting a Rajdhani Paribahan bus.
Confirming the incident, Savar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam told The Business Standard, "The bus reached Dhaka after the robbery. We contacted the driver and staff to bring the vehicle to the police station for further investigation."
Additionally, the Highway Police, local police, and Detective Branch (DB) have already begun investigating the case to track down the perpetrators, he said.
"When police were informed of the incident, we spoke to one of the victims," the OC added.
Nazmul Hasan, one of the victims, told TBS that the bus left Ashulia's Chakrabarti area around 12:30pm, heading toward Dhaka.
"As the bus reached Bank Town area, two passengers, pretending to get off, asked the driver to stop. The moment the bus slowed down, three-four more armed robbers hurriedly boarded the bus with sharp weapons and took control of the vehicle," he said.
The victim further said within a couple of minutes, the gang of robbers held the passengers at knifepoint, snatching mobile phones, wallets, gold jewellery, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
"They [robber] took my phone valued at over Tk50,000. Upon reaching Technical intersection in Dhaka, I reported the incident to the police box, where officers recommended calling 999," he added.
Prior to this incident, on the night of 17 February, a robbery and molestation occurred on a Rajshahi-bound bus in Tangail. Over three hours, criminals looted passengers' belongings and harassed female passengers.
According to media reports, the Unique Road Royals bus departed Gabtoli at 11pm with around 40 passengers, and the robbery began around 12:30am in Mirzapur, Tangail.
Earlier on 20 December last year, a robbery took place on a moving passenger bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar, leaving multiple passengers injured.
