Earlier, the district administration in Gopalganj imposed a curfew from 8pm last night until 6am this morning.
Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman issued the directive through a public notice yesterday (19 July).
The curfew was first imposed from 8pm Wednesday (16 July) to 6pm Thursday, following deadly clashes between banned Awami League supporters and law enforcers during the National Citizen Party's (NCP) "March to Gopalganj", which left five people dead and scores injured.
After extending the curfew till 6am today, the district administration eased it for 14 hours till 8pm.
As the curfew was relaxed today, life in Gopalganj was gradually returning to normal. A visit to various roads in the district town showed that the fear among residents is subsiding, and normal activities are resuming.
Vehicles were seen moving through the streets, and many businesses opened early in the morning. As the day progresses, the town became increasingly lively.
