A Swechasebak League leader was beaten by locals in c yesterday (30 March) night for alleged involvement in an attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement last year in the district.
Md Jasim Uddin Jisan, 36, previously served as the organisational secretary of the North Satkania Swechasebak League, was initially taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but doctors later referred him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for advanced treatment.
"The incident occurred around 9pm yesterday at Kantar Para in Ward No 1 of Keochia union of Satkania upazila," Satkania Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahedul Islam told The Business Standard today (31 March).
"Jisan had not been home since 5 August last year. Last night, when he returned to deliver clothes for his family members, locals apprehended and beat him. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the scene, but Jisan's relatives had already taken him to CMCH," he said.
"Legal action would be taken if any formal complaint is filed regarding the incident," the OC added.
According to locals, Jisan was named as the 58th accused in a case filed over an attack on a student protest at Keranihat Square on 4 August last year. The case was filed by Md Taslim, son of the late Siddiqur Rahman from Gura Mia Bari in Keochia village.
